One CLEAN Coast is a non-profit founded to address a need for prevention and mitigation of Litter, Curbside/Illegal Dumping, and Property Blight in Coastal Communities.

Prevention Model

How are we different from other groups working to clean up our community? Although it’s vital to collaborate with all groups involved in cleanup efforts, we are proposing a long-term evidence-based prevention strategy based on the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF). This framework  includes:

- Assessment

- Capacity Building

- Planning

- Implementation

- Evaluation

The process is executed with Cultural-Competency and Sustainability driving the process.

"Employing "Multiple Strategies Across Multiple Domains."

  • What OCC proposes is achievable. Creating tobacco-free environments seemed unattainable, but today because of similar prevention strategies we enjoy smoke-free environments throughout our communities. They are now the norm, not the exception.
  • OCC seeks to collaborate with community groups working to reduce these problems but share a belief that current attempts to address the problem are not enough.
  • OCC’s goal are to increase collaboration, improve accountability, and seek creative ways to assist the City of Gulfport and its citizens who may be struggling with ways to comply with ordinances (e.g., elderly, or persons with disabilities, feeling they have no other way to dispose of used furniture but to leave at their curbside).
  • OCC seeks to educate the community about the negative impacts illegal dumping, litter and property blight create for the overall public and mental health of the community.
  • OCC seeks to advocate for changes in policy and legislation, where necessary.
  • OCC seeks to greatly expand the number and coordinate volunteers in an ongoing fashion to serve within community domains (e.g., faith community, youth groups, government, schools, etc.) in order to increase public awareness on the negative impacts and assist with cleanup efforts, reporting and compliance.
  • OCC’s overarching goal is to change behaviors to prevent illegal dumping, litter and property blight in the first place.
  • OCC understands that this is a long-term process that will take broad community collaboration within and across all domains.
